NOVACADÈMIA trains more than 150 children in English within the Early Childhood Education stage each year.
This is undoubtedly one of the most important stages in learning English, and on some occasions, it does not receive the necessary attention. From a very young age, children should have a routine relationship with English, as just another activity that will be part of their development and future education. This will give them clear communicative autonomy in one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, English.
Learning the language through activities that the child can relate to play and fun generates motivation to participate in class and makes them feel comfortable learning alongside their classmates.
PRESCHOOL ENGLISH courses start with one weekly session of one hour, although the recommended time at this stage is 2 hours per week, divided into two sessions of 1 hour each on alternate days.
The two main activities carried out at this stage are:
– Academic English
– Lego Planet in English
Academic English is taught using CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH workbooks, with which children learn vocabulary and small expressions that they repeat in each class as part of activities and games, gradually expanding their knowledge over the months.
At the end of the course, it becomes visible how their English has developed, and the child appears much more confident and motivated to continue learning. These sessions include projects that complement learning, especially in the more immersive part. One of these is the MyPet project.
On the other hand, the activity LEGO PLANET IN ENGLISH is recognized as one of the most effective at this stage and has multiple benefits for the child, ranging from immersive and repetitive learning to the expression of abstract thinking and creativity.
NOVACADÈMIA has analyzed the psychopedagogical benefits of the activity with the guidance of Anaïs Rodríguez, psychologist and educational psychologist (licensed 24228).
The main benefits are:
- It fosters creativity and cognitive flexibility, thus helping to simultaneously develop the ability to solve different problems that may arise.
- It helps to establish logical relationships and plan actions more effectively, enhancing multiple skills related to logical reasoning.
- It improves fine motor skills and visuo-constructive, visuo-perceptive, and visuo-spatial abilities.
- It promotes self-concept and social skills.
- It allows the creation of an optimal environment for cooperative work and enhances communication among children.
In this sense, being able to carry out the activity in English provides the added benefit of language exposure, allowing children to work on all these aspects while also beginning to use and understand vocabulary related to the activity in a language other than their mother tongue. At the same time, it allows them to associate the language with a moment of fun and confidence.
The combination of both activities is a perfect routine for children between 3 and 5 years old, and their results are proven.
Children begin using the language by combining basic technical aspects adapted to their age, while also learning the different phonemes and sounds of the language through games, projects, and the most innovative official materials designed and published by CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS.
Below, we provide the PRESCHOOL ENGLISH courses that NOVACADÈMIA offers in Barcelona (Joan Roca Meridiana and Joan Roca Guipúscoa schools, and Mare de Déu del Coll school; as well as at our training centre in Caldes de Montbui).
