KEY ENGLISH TEST A2
The transition from primary to secondary education always has an increasing impact on students. It is important to reduce this impact and to establish bridges and links between both stages that allow the continuation of learning the English language. At this stage, it is very important to consolidate phonetics and pronunciation, since it is in this last stage of growth that brain plasticity still allows these modifications. Once students become accustomed to incorrect pronunciation, it is very difficult to change and/or improve it.
Throughout the learning process at the KET A2 level, students acquire a foundation that will be relevant at higher levels. For the first time, the student works on 4 of the 5 competences of the English language at higher levels, with the aim of learning English as a foreign language; therefore, they are expected to show a balanced command of all its competences and to gradually acquire skill and confidence in its use.
When the student has achieved the contents corresponding to the KET A2 level, they can obtain their first certificate on the scale of levels aimed at adolescents and adults.
CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH offers two types of learning at the KET (Key English Test) level. The first is aimed at a general audience, of any age. In contrast, the second is mainly aimed at children and young people who, having achieved the A2 level, can sit an exam with themes and content adapted to their age.
Both have the same level of difficulty and their recognition is exactly the same.
Adult students with a beginner or basic level take the KET A2 level at NOVACADÈMIA over two courses. The first of these is aimed at introducing the student to language learning, starting from zero. On the other hand, the second course serves to consolidate the level and prepare the student for the next level, Preliminary English B1.
NOVACADÈMIA carries out an official placement test and a personal interview before the start of the course, which allows us to segment groups by level rather than by age in the case of children and young people. At the end of the course, a complete final level test is carried out, which allows us to analyse and verify your progress and your performance level within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
We also provide you with a professional advisory service regarding official CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH exams, and we have official materials to practise the different parts and tests of the KET or KET for Schools exam before you officially sit it.
Below you will find the timetables for our courses in Caldes de Montbui and Barcelona. Remember that we can also offer you classes at this level on a private basis, either at home or at our centres. Tell us your needs and we will give you the best alternative.

PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST B1
The Preliminary English Test, better known as PET, is the final level before consolidating knowledge of English and adopting English as another language of real communication. It is the last step in learning to think in English and stop translating into our mother tongue what we want to express. It is one of the most important stages and, for this reason, after it we are well prepared to start working at the B2 level, represented by the First Certificate in English exam.
The main aspects that must be consolidated at this stage are:
- Acquisition of communicative skills and a certain degree of autonomy in the English language.
- Application of the acquired grammar and vocabulary with naturalness and confidence.
- Adaptation of English to various contexts: academic, professional, and leisure.
- Acquisition of the habit of thinking directly in English, learning to make this mental effort automatically.
The B1 level is the minimum required in most academic studies and job offers, but in many cases it is not sufficient, and an increasing number of institutions require a certified B2 level. Obtaining this B2 level is practically impossible without previously having a solid B1 foundation. In the same way, it is highly recommended to take and pass the B1 exam because its structure is very similar to that of the B2 and C1 exams, but much simpler and considerably more accessible. It has been proven that students who take the B1 exam and pass it, in practically 100% of cases, will pass the B2 exam without any problems.
On the other hand, the B1 level is quite common among young people and adults. For this reason, CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH offers two versions. The Preliminary English Test is the level with content aimed at all audiences, while the Preliminary English Test for Schools is aimed at an adolescent audience.
NOVACADÈMIA segments its PET B1 students based on whether they are adults or adolescents, delivering courses according to either the general content or the content specifically designed for adolescents, respectively. When students reach the PET B1 level, they are advised to take the official exams that certify their command of the English language at the Preliminary B1 level for any requirements from public or private institutions. This level is usually completed over two courses from September to June, or with one course from September to June and an intensive course in July. In most cases, the factor that determines how much time a student needs before moving on to the B2 level is related to the student’s own abilities, the extra time they dedicate to English outside the classroom, and their initial English foundation.
NOVACADÈMIA administers an official placement test and a personal interview before the start of the course, which allows us to segment groups by level rather than by age in the case of young people and adults. At the end of the course, a complete final level test is conducted, allowing us to analyse and verify your progress and your performance level within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
We also provide you with a professional advisory service regarding official CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH exams, and we have official materials to practise the different parts and tests of the PET or PET for Schools exam before you officially sit it.
