Reading helps us grow: The importance of reading, today and always
- Date 23/04/2025
Today is April 23rd, World Book Day and Saint George’s Day (Diada de Sant Jordi) in Catalonia — a day that puts books in the spotlight and reminds us, as every year, that reading is not just a habit, but a key tool for the personal and academic development of our children and young people.
At NOVACADÈMIA, we firmly believe that reading is one of the best investments we can make in education. Reading transforms. It opens the mind. It gives wings to the imagination. And, above all, it helps us understand the world and ourselves better.
Why is reading so important?
Improves comprehension and oral and written expression: Children who read regularly acquire a richer vocabulary and a better ability to express themselves clearly, both orally and in writing.
Promotes attention and concentration: In a world full of digital distractions, reading is a natural exercise for maintaining focus and patience.
Stimulates creativity and critical thinking: Every story raises questions, presents conflicts, and invites reflection. Reading helps develop critical thinking and see different perspectives.
Increases empathy: Immersing oneself in different lives, cultures, and realities through reading helps understand others and connect with a range of emotions.
Enhances academic performance: Cross-disciplinary reading is key to better understanding all subjects, from science to the humanities.
And today, more than ever…
We invite you to give a book as a gift, read with your family, discover a new author, or revisit that book you haven’t finished… because every page you read is a small seed for the future.
Happy Saint George’s Day and Happy World Book Day! May reading always accompany us, at every age and along every path.
